Fluvius was established on July 1, 2018, from the merger of Eandis and Infraxis. Fluvius is the distribution system operator (DSO) in Flanders for electricity and natural gas. Fluvius works independently of energy producers and suppliers. It does not produce or sell energy, but ensures that electricity and natural gas reaches customers in the best possible conditions. In Flanders, customers can freely choose their electricity supplier for electricity and natural gas. The energy is distributed via a network of cables and pipes to the houses and businesses. Operating this network is the main activity of the distribution system operators. They operate in a specific territory and as such customers cannot choose their DSO. Fluvius is also partner in the development and roll-out of district heating networks.
